A Christmas present from a friend, I read this in two sittings and thoroughly enjoyed it. A world of high fantasy and normality set in Prague and the elusive Elsewhere, with characters called Brimstone, Karou and Akiva, I was hooked from the first few pages.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone is a book that was thoroughly enjoyable and made no sense until about one third to two thirds in. An art student runs errands for her father figure Brimstone (who isnβt human) and lives Elsewhere in a shop that can only be accessed by a door that has to be opened from within. Karou, a teenager is covered in tattoos (two which she canβt remember getting), speaks multiple languages and collects teeth. The initial concept of the book was intriguing and only got more confusing as the book continued. Enter an angel like figure Akiva and everything that already madeβ¦
