The 1930’s saw the growth of what was known as “Shanty Towns”… aka squatter settlements created by the Great Depression, extreme political views, and what many considered an upside down world in times where bank robbers, like Bonnie and Clyde, were seen as heroes instead of villains.

  • Cost of a gallon of gas was 10 cents: From 1930 to 1940, gas only changed “one cent” going to 11 cents. What a difference from today… where it jumps up overnight… often several times in a week. At this writing, (March 2019) the price of gas in Connecticut is $2.49 a gallon… $1.99 in Georgia… and $1.95 in Virginia.
