Book Review – Campusland by Scott Johnson

cover160389-medium5_star_rating_system_1_star As you know, I’ve been trying to get my way through all of the NetGalley books I’ve had waiting on my shelf for months. I always feel really guilty when I go on a requesting binge and then buy a load of new books to read. Plus, I have my ratio to think about. I requested Campusland because it sounded fun. It’s almost impossible to not think about Animal House in this situation. Which is both a good and a bad thing I guess. When you’ve already been lucky enough to watch the best college-based comedy we’re ever likely to see, it means nothing else will compare. But it also means you’re willing to try and find the next one. So, when I saw Campusland on NetGalley I couldn’t resist giving it a go. I should have known better. I really should have known better. It’s what I go through…

A metrical version of the Magnificat, to an appropriate tune for the day

kathleenjowitt's avatarKathleen Jowitt

My soul proclaims God’s mighty glory
and my spirit shall rejoice
in God who saves me and exalts me,
who makes the poor his choice.
God’s bounteous blessings fall upon me
from now and through all years:
the mighty one has raised me upward:
God is holy, and God hears!

So take comfort, who suffer; this good news is for you:
Your trials will be changed to triumphs, and you will receive your due;
So take comfort, who suffer, and claim your rightful place:
God loves you, and has chosen you, of all the human race.

God stands with those deprived of power,
and God’s power will win the day;
He gives the hungry food in plenty
and he sends the rich away.
He empties thrones, and lifts the humble,
brings confusion to the proud;
He remembers those who are downtrodden,
and has saved us, as he vowed:

So take…

In a world chock-full of beautiful birds,

Inca Terns have to be some of the most stunning,

and unique.

Their looks are matched by their winsome personalities.

Inca Terns are the only member of their genus, Larosterna.

They are restricted to areas enriched by The Humboldt Current, off the coasts of Peru and Chile.

They are a near threatened species.

Cheers to you from the always wonderful to find, Inca Terns~

Books I read in April

jen_bookworm's avatarBookworm

This post could be called BOOKS I DIDN’T FINISH IN APRIL,  I had time off work too so no excuses, I seem to have more books started than books finished:

The Books I Finished

I haven’t got around to writing the reviews for the first two yet. But I enjoyed both of them and was probably focused more on these books in April and they were so good I didn’t want to read anything else. I started reading Catcher In The Rye in March and finished it in April, my previous post was my review.

Books I’ve Started

Dragonfly in Amber is book two of the Outlander series, I love it most of the time I can’t put it down. It’s a library copy. Wakenhyrst is one of the Netgalley books I’ve had since last year that I need to catch up on (and I’ve requested two more with a…

All dead.

All those letters left unread
Unseen words of people long dead.
Gathering dust and spider webs
The truth they held seeping, ebbs.
Feelings poured out onto the page
Love, grief joy and rage.
I wonder why these missives were hidden
Where they evidence of love forbidden.
Love long dead.

This is my entry for Kat Myrman’s Twittering Tales.
