(Part 1: can’t you hear that whistle blowing?)

(Part 2: rise up so early in the morn: north and east)

18 April 2018

My journey was the exact reverse of the one I’d taken forty-three hours before – but this time it was in broad, bright, day, a clear and gentle sunlight that suffused the landscape. We ran through pine forests, passed opaque blue lakes, and ponds still half-frozen over, wooden buildings painted red or yellow. First class meant free coffee, fruit, and chocolate truffles, for the mere trouble of getting up to collect them. From the window I saw two hares, and birds I’d never seen before. I took to Twitter for help identifying them. ‘Like a monochrome great crested grebe on stilts with a feather duster on its backside.’ The internet knew the answer. Cranes. It was, all in all, a beautiful afternoon.

True to form Charlie Holmberg has created another brilliant series, one filled with brilliantly crafted plotlines, compelling and unique characters and her world building skills are well…out of this world!

Myths and Mortals picks up right where Smoke and Summons left off.  Sandis is no longer a vessel for Ireth and living with the only family she has, her Uncle. Although grateful for having somewhere to go now that she is no longer a numina, she is still grieving, terrified and feels alone in the world.  Still destroyed by Rone’s…

2019: M… A to Z Italian Famiglia Foods and Memories: Mama’s Old-Fashioned Root Beer

I’m back for “year 4” of the A to Z… April Challenge!

My first year of this challenge had me racking my brain for a writing topic… especially as I didn’t quite understand the process. But finally I came up with 2016:Southern Foods and Memories. They said write what you know… and being a girl born in the South… well this was what I knew.  2017: Conversations with Mama was a somewhat easy one for me as I’d journaled our conversations for years so I researched some of my favorite topics to write on.  2018: All About Nancy Drew has been my favorite topic so far, and I don’t know if I’ll ever come up with another to equal it. It literally had me researching every day for over six months… researching, reading and…

Trapped

Sarah W's avatarBy Sarah

I feel I have been frozen out.
No one to hear me scream and shout.

I am bound and I am caged.
Like an animal, enraged.

Time has lost all meaning.
My spirit has started screaming.

Will I lose my mind?
The ability to still be kind?

What use is there in going on?
Has all hope finally gone?

Have I now truly snapped?
No. Not really. I’m just trapped.

Flying High

HIGH FIVE, CHINA

Carry me high,

Up into the blue sky.

I need to float I want to fly.

I grow weary of the ties that bind

I need to leave it all behind.

Draped in royal purple

And midnight blue

I am ready to break through.

Flocks of ravens wing my heels

Amid the thermal my soul weals

I glide and whirl,

Down I tumble and twirl

Gloriously my satin wings unfurl.

I dash from horizon to the moon

Leaving vapour trails in rainbow

hue.

No not wispy white for me

High-flying honestly free.

Above the earth for all to see

My spirit escaped mercifully free,

OH! thank God at last, cut loose and flying free.
