The Changing Seasons: August 2018

It’s been a busy month, and not always in a good way. I feel that I’ve wasted spent far too much time on household admin stuff. As the month closes, I’m still waiting on others’ to provide information I need to make decisions and cross these things off my “to-do” list.

One the plus side, there’s only so much book-keeping and financial planning a person can do before they lose the will to live (for me that’s not very much), so there has been plenty of need for distraction. This has mostly taken the form of still-life photography (much of which you’ve seen), trying to improve my embarrassingly basic PhotoShop skills, and spending quality time with my journal and some watercolour paints.

The Big T and I have only managed to escape the city once — for a long weekend in the Waikato. The weather was mostly great and the…

The Changing Seasons, August 2019

August is often a month in which I feel like hibernating. This year, with rain every day (yep, actually every single day), cold winds and heavy grey skies, I really haven’t felt  like venturing far from home. I know I’ve been busy at home — I’m just not quite sure what I’ve been busy doing.

My photos offer a few clues.

There has been a lot of baking this month; mostly sourdough-based. I’ve been making a sourdough wholewheat bread for a few years, and was getting quite reliably good results until a few months ago. My most recent loaves aren’t developing the gluten properly, and I’m obsessively testing variations on my recipe to understand what is going wrong.

I’m still not sure, but in the process of experimenting I’ve made…

CUENTO AZUL

Imagen: Million Shades of White

Life apparently has signboards strewn along the way. Reading and following them is also not a problem for most of the people. However, it would be nice to have a map as well. You know, complete with a “You are Here” and a “You need to be Here” and a “This is Where you will be” and oh – “This is Where you are NEVER supposed to be”. I can think of many more such.

I often get the feeling of being a stray leaf just flowing along the stream. I don’t know when or how I landed here. I don’t know how long I will be drifting along. And I don’t know how I will meet the end. Will it be through a waterfall? Or will I eventually join the vast ocean? Or maybe I will just flatten and dry against a rock, slowly being shredded into nothing.

I have…

Mirror #writephoto

Prajakta's avatarAn Armchair Perfectionist

Are those cracks in the mirror or is that just me?

Is there even a difference anymore between what’s real and what’s just a leak in my imagination?

Do I even care?

How two-faced have I become?

A complete stranger.

The lights don’t do much good either,

Unearthly rays pass right through me,

Creating a sifted halo around me that does not belong.

My existence feels inconsequential.

Yet, a victim of narcissism’s muse.

I get sucked into my own reflection

Drowning in the pool to become one.
