Yogurt Tomato Bisque

What’s Cooking in Gail’s Kitchen? The Next Step: Yogurt Tomato Bisque! Before you turn up your nose at the sound of yogurt, hear me out. Here’s a couple of facts you may not have heard about yogurt. Number One, it’s healthy. Number Two, it makes the soup creamier, which is always a plus in my opinion. Number Three, Greek yogurt has twice as much protein as regular yogurt. And, Number Four, it has about half as many carbs, if that’s something that is important to you. All together, that makes it a Superfood. Yada-yada-yada. In the end, what it all comes down to is flavor. Tomatoes can be sweet, so the yogurt adds a little tang, which goes well with a dab of butter. Add herbs and cheese with a slice of garlic toast and you have the “pièce de résistance”. Nicely done.

Vichyssoise Cold Creamier Soup

Gail's avatarsnapshotsincursive

What’s Cooking in Gail’s Kitchen? Fab Foodstuff: Vichyssoise Cold Creamier Soup! Just hearing the word “soup” during the summer months can make someone rolls their eyes enough to make people pay no attention to what is being said. But hear me out. Let me remind you that the silky consistency of melted ice cream actually brings out the flavor more than its frozen counterpart. Right? Well, “vichyssoise” is a French word for velvety smooth potato and leek soup, usually served chilled. When eaten slightly cold, the sheer creaminess is truly divine. Leeks are mild fancy onions, so if you prefer to use yellow sweet onions, permission granted. Personally, for this recipe, I went all out and used both. I also chose Yukon potatoes for their sweet flavor and moist flesh making them fluffy in texture. Make sense? Obviously you can make modifications to suit your palate. Be creative and send…

Secret London

utesmile's avatarUte smile

I went on a walking Tour through the City of London. The guide was very knowledgeable and told us a lot about history.

He also pointed out places where films like James Bond, Sherlock Holmes, 4 weddings and a funeral etc have been recorded.

It was a fabulous and very interesting walk. I have lived here for more than 25 years but everything I saw and heard was new to me even though I had explored London many times. There are hidden gems we don’t know.

Here are some impressions.

.

This house is not allowed to be changed (in height) as the tree behind it is famous through a poem from the English Poet William Wordsworth– with the title Poor Susan, apparently one of his worst poems. It is  a lovely tree though!

A great day out!

utesmile's avatarUte smile

We had a sunny, warm day!

So London here I come!

I met friends and after a wonderful lunch by the River Thames we went to the cable car.

Yes, London has no mountains but a cable car.

It goes over the Thames and in the sunshine we had a lovely view.

You can see the Dome, the River Thames and a lot further.

Afterwards I had tea with my friends in their back garden in the sunshine.

Friends are so valuable.

Never forget how priceless they are,

they are with you in need,

they are with you to laugh

they are always there for you.

Be thankful !

A grand day out!

Talking to fellow bloggers is fun, but meeting them is even better.

Luckily Alastair lives in the same country as me and only a train journey away from London.

We met on Saturday and spent a wonderful day together.

We went on the cable car, walked over the Thames, saw Whitehall, No 10 Downing Street, Trafalgar Square packed with people, Leicester Square, Piccadilly, Buckingham Palalce and went through lovely parks. Of course we stopped at coffee shops and had a dinner break.

We walked miles. We ended up in my all time favourite park, St. James’s Park with lots of ducks, squirrels, and the most beautiful flowers and shrubs.

I played around with my flower pictures and here is the result. Some with quotes.

This is the Olympic Aquatic Centre which has a funny shape. My mum and her sister went swimming in there too and they loved it. Mum wants to go again soon, she so loved the long 50 m lanes…. and the hairdryers… apparently. 🙂

Then we went with the cable car over the Thames, I loved the view, I could almost see my house from there!

Danny’s Holidays Part One

utesmile's avatarUte smile

You all know me as the bear who went to Spain last year to meet Manny from California. Well, Manny has run away to China, hope he enjoys it.

I had a lovely holiday here in London with my mum and her sister. I saw many places I have never seen before. I was so lucky and happy  that I could go with them.

First we went to Chislehurst Cave that is where that photo was taken and I didn’t remember.

A man made cave from the Saxons then the Romans extended it for finding flint and the it was used in the 2nd World War for 50 000 people. It was rather cold and so many ways you could easily get lost so we had to follow the guide with the lamp as there was no light.

She did say “every last Thursday of the month they look for…
