Into the Fire

I’m seeing you tonight.

It isn’t my heart I worry about

or its thump, thump, thump

and its skips.

Nor is it my mouth

which talks far too much

and longs to whisper things

you shouldn’t hear.

I’m worried about my horns.

Have I polished them enough?

Can they be seen through my hair?

Are they sharp and tough

to pierce through your armor?

I’ll invade your guarded soul

and revel in its capture.

In my bed,

I’ll keep you satiated

in your defeat,

my most prized prisoner,

eternally chained to me.

***My poem was inspired by a fun conversation I had with Seeing the Whisper.***

Changes to Lonely Author

thelonelyauthorblog's avatarThe Lonely Author

juggling chimpLonely Author wants to thank everyone for putting up with his six week Lovefest. Also, sending special thanks to everyone who encouraged me with my Devil Girl Diaries.

During the past six weeks I have posted twice a day six days a week.

A pace that I can’t continue…..

There are characters banging inside my thick Chimp skull wanting to get out. Not to mention the characters of my completed novels and screenplays wanting their stories to be read/viewed.

There is also the issue of helping the butterflies in my life.

My daughter struggling with college as her mother’s health wanes.

My battered lady friends complaining, “I am always too busy.”

My pouting Allie accusing me of loving my blog more than I love her.

IT IS TOTALLY MY FAULT, for spoiling them.

In a nutshell, I will post less often. Some weeks more than others.

However, I will…

Living With Lonely Author

monkey-bride

Imagine Lonely Author is single, you and I are starting a relationship…..yeah I want to brush your hair, paint your toe nails, meet your friends, watch TV and movies with you, massage your feet, take you shoe shopping, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH…

No, it’s not all bananas and roses…

To be fair and balanced, here is a list of the complaints from old girlfriends, wives, and Allie.

1- Chimp loves to spoon. Not a problem? Well, I have a bad sinus problem so I SNORE. To give you an idea, while on a long distance flight to visit a girlfriend a stewardess woke me up because “my snoring scared the other passengers.”
2- Flirting. Last year prior to my surgery, with Allie standing by my side, I invited a nurse to go bowling with us after surgery. (If you’re the jealous type you have to let me know, so I can…

Must Love Shoes

thelonelyauthorblog's avatarThe Lonely Author

A bold glimpse into me. Since I was courageous enough to post this, I will leave comments open. I could use a good laugh.

Must Love Shoes

In a recent conversation with my friend Shelley of Quaint Revival I confessed my love for women’s shoes. (No, I do not wear them). No, not a shoe kisser type either, I just adore women who have plenty of shoes (in all styles and colors). Women’s shoes and feet, totally drives me insane.

One of the reasons I chose this new apartment, it has a shoe closet.

My idea of the perfect evening?

Lights are turned low. We are sitting on the couch, sipping wine, listening to soft mood setting music. We talk about poetry, life, books, and my favorite subject – YOU. My hands gently caress and massage your feet which rest in my lap.

Coming from New York, I met women…

Goodreads Giveaways – Can You Find them on NetGalley?

Rosepoint Publishing's avatarRosepoint Publishing

Goodreads Giveaways - NetGalley

The good news is that there is a remarkable number of crossovers from Giveaways on Goodreads to those being offered by publishers on NetGalley for the mere promise of a review.

The bad news is that I could not search for five-star books I could recommend from any that I read and reviewed recently.  (My opinion, of course.) Oh, and the other bad news, I could not find a filter that would allow me to search for books other than (mainly) US. Apologies to my friends and readers across the pond, perhaps you get different listings?

There were some listed US and Canada. But actually, there were few filters, although you can search for Kindle format books. Why would they be limited to US? As you no doubt know, Giveaway books are listed as Featured, Ending Soon, Most Requested, or Recently Listed. Most of the books listed below appear…

4 Delicious Dishes Made with Corned Beef Leftovers

koolaidmoms's avatarWhat's for Dinner Moms?

Everyone have their corned beef and cabbage for St. Patrick’s Day? We love corned beef and cabbage and I buy 4-6 briskets when they are on sale this time of year. You don’t need to just have brisket. The leftovers can be made into so many things. Sometimes I will even cook an extra brisket just to have LOTS of leftovers.

Simple Corned Beef Hash with Eggs (click here for link to recipe) can be a delicious breakfast or dinner. One of our favorite meals is breakfast for dinner. Use frozen potatoes to make this dish even simpler!

Reuben Egg Rolls (click here for link to recipe) are a fun and easy way to use some of the leftover corned beef, cabbage (or sauerkraut), and cheese. You can bake them or deep fry them (they are delicious both ways).

These little Reuben Style Hawaiian Slider Sandwiches (click here…

Grilled Classic Reuben

koolaidmoms's avatarWhat's for Dinner Moms?

I had one frozen brisket left from my St. Patrick’s Day stock up. They are perfect for this time of year because you can throw them in the slow cooker and let them cook without heating up your home. We made the brisket and decided we wanted Reubens with the brisket. The recipe that follows has no amounts because it is all up to you! Like more Swiss throw an extra slice or two on. Like more meat throw a couple extra slices on the sandwich. It is all up to you.

Don’t have a brisket to cook? Go to the deli and get sliced corned beef. It is hard to find for us this time of year as we live in a tiny town but most places have corned beef year round.

Verdict:

These were perfect. Cook them slowly to get that outside nice and crisp but not burnt…

For a full guide on planning a trip to Huangshan, check out my post: A Guide to Hiking Huangshan

huangshan 4

Day 1: Traveling to Huangshan

Huangshan City is located in the Anhui province, south of the province capital Hefei. Huangshan City is actually not where the mountain scenic area is located, but you’ll need to arrive here first before going to the mountain.

Equipment Review: Canon EOS Rebel T6

Laci's avatarMcGee Travel Tales

I have been asked recently about the type of camera I use for the pictures on this blog. There are two answers. First is my iPhone, it is easy and is almost always in my pocket. The second is our Canon Rebel T6.

If you are looking to get into photography or just want a better camera with a better zoom for nature photos, this is a great camera. This review will tell you why with limited technical jargon because this review is for the beginner.

Price

Right now on Amazon you can get this camera in various accessory bundles anywhere from $400 to $470. That’s not a bad price considering that most of these bundles come with at least one lens, sometimes two, a camera bug, straps and memory cards. I understand that the price tag can seem large, but the quality of camera is worth it. Also, diving…
