Binding of Bindings #23: June Book Wrap-Up
There it goes…
Off into the sunset, out with the tide, out like a firecracker.
We had been waiting so long for its arrival, were so happy to see it here, but now it’s gone again.
Snuffed out for another year.
June.

WAIT.
No…not that June!
…
This June.
The happy one.
Well…anyways…

Malindi-Watamu vacay: Portuguese Chapel
The grass thatched ‘hut’ like structure has wooden blocked pews which are few in number and I ask if the congregation would fit in. Am told they weren’t many as Muslims outnumbered Christians- just sixty of them were housed here.
Blocked benches

A wooden cross, rosary, pictures of Jesus, small Bible and a used candle occupy the altar. Almond trees beautify the manicured paths where graves fill in the compound.

Like the Amazing Race, you find a huge padlock at the semi gate of the oldest Christian Church in East Africa that was gazetted a National Monument in 1935 believed to have been built in the 1490s.The key is collected at the Vasco Dagama gate.Had I known this when I made my trip to this gem, then that same day a guide would have accompanied me to the junction at the Baobab restaurant that neighbours the Chapel.
