Yes, Angels!!!
As promised, an explanation of our assessment process,
and of course, a horse is so much more interesting than a building part!
Terri is a beloved horse from the Jantzen Beach Carousel; locals have fond memories of her!
Terri is also extremely damaged.
We examined Terri with an eye to the necessary repairs to make her stable for many generations of riding when the carousel is finally rebuilt in its new location.
We look at everything:
legs, tail, neck, cantle, pole mount,
and the decorative gemstones.
Terri is set up in our “stable” so that we can walk all around her and
examine both her Romance and non-Romance sides:
the “Romance” side is the side that you see when standing and watching the carousel,
and in the USA carousels move counter-clockwise.
Romance sides are the highly detailed sides, with gems and many decorations!

Today’s prompt for the Stream of Consciousness is the word, “social.” We can use it any way we want and have fun.
Social studies, okay. Social Justice, Yes! I’m not the most social person, especially in person. But I do believe in social justice. I can be social for a while, but when there’s an event that is purely social without any other goal, I tend to flounder. I’d rather be social for social justice – marches, meetings, volunteer work, picking up trash, protesting – it’s easy for me to be social when there’s a cause. Years ago, I was pretty active in environmental and animal rights groups. Social justice should include animals and the earth. Trees, too. I find it easy to be social with trees. They’re such good listeners.

When we first met, Bernie had no interest in garden birds. He professes never to have noticed a single bird. These days he takes on the task of cleaning out and siting our bird boxes and earlier this year he devoted significant time to constructing and trialling protection for last year’s swallows’ nest in which, very sadly, the three babies drowned during a downpour. (We have swallows nesting again now. We’re hoping for a happier ending this year.)

Off to a flying start in the clouds last week, today we’ll have our feet much more firmly on the ground. I’m taking you back to the beginning of our Azores adventure, and arriving in a rather dull, grey Ponta Delgada. Quite a contrast to the sunny Algarve we left behind, but I was full of optimism and happy to finally be there. It was mid-afternoon when we landed. A 10 minute taxi ride from the airport, check-in, and we were out on the streets. I needed a flavour of Sáo Miguel’s main city, and capital of the islands, because I would not be returning. The following day we were flying onwards, to the island of Sáo Jorge.

The holiday lights are turned on at Thanksgiving and glow until mid-January. The Plaza was the first shopping center in the world designed to accommodate shoppers arriving by automobile.
