Join Julie for a soggy climb of the Langdale Pikes…

Drove from Ambleside and parked at New Dungeon Ghyll. Arrived prepared with lots of change because the charge for the day is currently £8 in coins.

The first full day of this year’s May sojourn to the Lakes dawned a tad on the damp side; therefore not many photos of rain hitting fells with me in the middle. Pleased to have completed the remaining climbs which make up the Langdale Pikes because they have been on the ‘to do’ list for a while.

Tuesday Review – Wine Country (2019)

Murdocal's avatarYipee ki-yay, motherbooker

220px-wine_country5_star_rating_system_3_stars I didn’t get a chance to watch a new cinema release this week so I turned to Netflix. I’ve not really been keeping up with Netflix original films of late. I watched Rebel Wilson’s Isn’t It Romantic one boring bank holiday weekend. It was almost as dire as I’d expected but I guess it wasn’t all bad. Not as funny as it thought it was but the overall message wasn’t as dire as it seemed. But it still wasn’t enough to suggest that Netflix had turned itself around in terms of original comedy films. We’ve discussed my feelings about this in the past but, as I’m never against talking about it, I’ll remind you of them. Netflix comedy films suck. They are never original or clever. It’s just basic stories mixed with big-name stars to draw people in. To be fair, it’s a fantastic strategy in terms of getting viewers…

Stolen.jpg

Disclaimer:This book was sent to me by the publisher, The Parliament House Press,  for an honest review.

Genre: YA/Fantasy

Plot: It’s difficult taking care of a delusional father by yourself. Sixteen-year-old Shaleigh Mallet would rather explore and photograph dilapidated buildings than cater to her father’s dark episodes. But when she’s kidnapped by a creature who carries her atop a flying bicycle into another world, she realizes this wasn’t the escape she wanted.

In a kingdom known as the Garden, where minotaurs pull carriages and parties are held in hot air balloons, Madam Cloom and her faerie servant, Teagan, rule over the land with incredible but terrifying magic. Shaleigh must prove that she is the reincarnation of a long-dead ruler, not because she believes it, but because it’s her only chance to survive. With the help of a trespassing faerie, a stoatling, and a living statue, Shaleigh hopes to outwit…

The WOLVES RULE YELLOWSTONE ONCE AGAIN!

As a child I used to be sung to sleep in a cabin by Fish Creek in The Tetons by the wolves howling in the distant mountains. I was quite sad to hear they had all been annihilated and hopeful when the wolves were reintroduced to their home territory in 1995. I can now testify that THE WOLVES RULE THE NIGHT IN YELLOWSTONE ONCE AGAIN!
We asked a ranger where the best wildlife viewing options were in Yellowstone and she advised us to get to the HaydenValley just before dusk, as wolves were active in the area, and had made a recent kill. We left around 6pm. En-route we saw a lone wolf resting by a herd of about 300 buffalo, including calves. The wolf was resting, biding his time, waiting.

We arrived at HaydenValley just before sunset and very quickly spotted three resting wolves, one grey and two black…

What to do when a bull moose walks right by you and you are in the middle of the wilderness? Back up slowly and take a pic….

or four! He got into some tussles with small pine trees, that looked rather aggressive, but I think he was just scratching his antlers. (I’ll post them if you want to see them)

Here is a sweet-faced peaceful lady elk. I was taking her pic from fairly close by, and she was unperturbed.

When all of a sudden there was this helacious din, that sounded something like a dinosaur. It is elk mating season in Jasper National Park, and I was right in the path of Sammy the suitor and his intended. No matter to him that his mating path was right in front of our cabin! He ran up to his intended, and saw me in his way….(Male elk in rut…

The Cabin on the Lake~

cindy knoke's avatarCindy Knoke

I have always wanted to stay for an extended period of time on a high mountain lake,

in the Eastern Sierras, far from people,

in the fall,

when the leaves change,

in a cabin,

on the lakeshore.

As the temperature drops each day,

critters have time to prepare for winter. (Golden Mantled Squirrel)

Winter still holds herself back.

Tonite it will be 21 degrees F.

Cheers to you from the beauty, refuge, and safety, of the wilderness (chipmunk)~
