Malindi-Watamu vacay: Marine Parks

Kilifi County is blessed to have two marine parks wide apart set up in 1968, Malindi Marine National park and Watamu Marine National park. In fact they were the first Marine Parks to be established in Africa and third in the world. In 1979, they were designated a biosphere reserve under the UNESCO. The two are managed separately. The parks covers an area of 6km2 while the reserve covers an area of 213km2.

Whereas Malindi’s is South of Malindi town, the Watamu park is Ksh 50 bus fare away-30minutes drive from Malindi Town. Adult charges are Ksh 130 for East Africa citizens, Ksh 300 for residents and 17US$ for non-residents.
