I am honored to be able to post this review of my horror novel Maledicus: The Investigative Paranormal Society Book 1 by Charles F. French.

Maledicus

Maledicus follows the plot of a horror story, which is the first horror novel I have ever read. This being said, I had low expectations since I have never truly been one to want to read a book focused around horror, or even mystery. However, contrary to my mindset prior to reading the novel, I found this book hard to put down since the story was captivating and the characters were intriguing. The characters were specifically fun to read about since they were relatable. One character I particularly enjoyed was Roosevelt, even with the age difference since I am 18 years old in comparison. Also, the author utilized a casual tone and adolescent-like language in the dialogue of the novel, creating almost a comedic undertone…

Release Date: 2nd May 2019

Ok, so I got this ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I listen to Tim Clare’s writing podcast when I get chance and follow him on Twitter. I heard about The Ice House on there.

I wish I’d read The Honours first as this book follows on from that.

But: I’ve just preordered a copy of The Ice House from Mr B’s Emporium (with the promise of a signed edition) and The Honours 🙂

So what’s is about:

Synopsis from GoodReads:

“WAR DOESN’T END. IT SLEEPS.

Delphine Venner is old, but she remembers everything.

Anathema

Sarah W's avatarBy Sarah

The rain was becoming an anathema to the animals of the jungle.

Especially since so their habitat was being destroyed to make way for palm oil plantations.

Huddling under the only shelter he could find, the orangutan thought “At least it isn’t literally raining cats and dogs. “The we’d really be in trouble!”

The Sunflower

Sarah W's avatarBy Sarah

Save me, I’m lost.
Looking for sunshine
but counting up the cost.
Wasting so much time.

I’ve learned to love abuse.
My mistakes become regrets.
I’m not being obtuse,
just accustomed to losing bets.

I’ve been waiting for you,
as months and years go by.
Trying to start anew,
but still left questioning why.

Don’t let go.
I’ve wanted this far too long.
Starting now to grow,
I’ve learnt from what went wrong.

Stand tall. Reach for the sky.
I take back my power.
No more tears left to cry.
I am the sunflower.
