A certain breeze…

Isha Garg's avatarIshaisms

There’s a place where I go

where a certain breeze blows,

where every petal and every thorn,

every copse and every grove,

for the lost one does mourn…

for the loved one, does mourn….

There’s a place where I go,

where the birds sing a quaint song

of immortal, evergreen folklores

in music unheard before,

for the lost one to mourn…

for the loved one, to mourn…

There’s a place where I go,

where waves long to meet the shore,

watch the earth flower and grow,

crying in a melancholic drone –

and the lost one is mourned…

and the loved one,

is mourned…

6th Blogiversary

Eliza Waters's avatarEliza Waters

CleomeIt has been six years since I started this blog and in reflecting back over that time, life has brought many changes, including my reasons for blogging.

Sweet peasInitially, I thought I’d blog about gardening and nature. I envisioned my posts being informative about different plants, sharing my gardens and walks around the land I call home. Of course, I soon learned that social media is a two-way street and at least half of blogging is meeting and following other bloggers that share similar interests.

Being human, we can’t help but be drawn into the world of others, building relationships over time, some blossoming into friendships. Eventually, the amount of time I spent in my Reader far outweighed the time spent writing posts. Some days, I felt that I shouldn’t ‘waste’ my time, but I felt compelled to see what everyone was posting. Call it FOMO, but I didn’t want to…

Finding Noom

rachelmankowitz's avatarrachelmankowitz

I was on Weight Watchers for more than a year, and I did really well with it early on, but at a certain point I couldn’t make any more progress. I still stayed with it for another six months, though, asking for more help and trying different strategies, until I eventually gave in to the ubiquitous ads for the Noom app and switched allegiances.

On Weight Watchers there are zero point foods that you can eat in unlimited quantities; that’s what made the diet so easy to follow for so long. Whenever I was hungry, even if I’d run out of points for the day (foods are given point values instead of calorie counts on WW), I could just eat any of the zero point foods, and there were tons of them. But in the end, those zero point foods were the problem. I was eating too much.

Rhubarb and Rainbows.

pensitivity101's avatarpensitivity101

We had a flash thunderstorm yesterday afternoon, and although it didn’t last very long, it was quite something.
For once, Maggie wasn’t worried and found a quiet corner to doze, so it adds fuel to the concern that her hearing is on the way out.
The rain came down fast and heavy, and the road was awash in minutes. The sky was that deep purply gray and the air was thick and charged. No lightning, but the thunder was pretty close and rumbled away in its own time frame.
Within minutes I was rushing for the camera as outside was one of the brightest rainbows I have ever seen. It was beautiful, and I opened the window to get a good shot, but couldn’t fit it all in so had to do it in two goes.

Now I don’t know if I’m imagining it, but the top picture could be…

Turmeric Chicken Curry

Gail's avatarsnapshotsincursive

What’s Cooking in Gail’s Kitchen? Fab Foodstuff: Turmeric Chicken Curry! For those who dabble in traditional ethnic dishes, turmeric is a well-known spice that typically gives food a rich golden yellow hue. Although turmeric has a slightly bitter taste, curry powder combines it with cumin and chili powder to catapult the flavor from mild to very spicy. Keep in mind, a little goes a long way when adding flavor and color. I find turmeric mildly aromatic with a slight scent of ginger, which is appealing when added to chicken. Also, it can jazz up boring white rice by making an ordinary dish look a bit fancy.

TURMERIC CHICKEN CURRY

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 pound boneless skinless chicken

1 onion, chopped

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 cup chicken broth

1 cup crushed tomatoes

4 teaspoons turmeric

1/8 teaspoon cloves

1/2 teaspoon thyme

1/4 teaspoon sea salt

1/8 teaspoon black…

“When they get to know” – Nayana Nair

Nayana Nair's avatarit rains in my heart

There was this one girl
who was too bright.
I liked her a lot.
She was a little more loud, little more caring,
laughed a little more longer.
As if that ‘little more’ was her essence,
was a rule she couldn’t break.
I liked how I could see
what she was without that ‘little more’,
that all of them would never know her like me.
I wonder at what point they will get to know,
that she is drifting away.
Would they would find her too plain,
once she stopped trying?
Would they also feel betrayed?
By then, would they have learnt
all the cruel words
that can break her,
words that she already knows.
I hope not.
I hope they are too young
to recognize the masks they see
or the masks they wear.

A mom’s world

Lina Mwintoma's avatarBlissful Hearts

Right from the day I came into her live, she knew her live had taken a whole new turn. As a new mom, she had to find ways of juggling her daily chores while seeing to the needs of her kid and husband. Creating her own kind of world as an unemployed mom was all she could think of.

Being inspired to create a balanced lifestyle, she decided to work from home, one that she could have both her mind and heart fully at home while pursuing her passion. Just like a proverbs 31 woman, she would rise at dawn, plan a schedule and see to it that daddy is set for work. With me in my cozy cradle, belly-filled, she would gather her straws and start knitting her handmade shopping baskets. While looking on to me, she joyfully knitted. Breaking intermittently, she fed and put me to sleep then…
