The anticipation was building up on the parade route on 5th Avenue with horns blasting, flags waving, speakers blasting and that was just the crowd. Well over 1 million people attended what parade sponsors named America’s Largest Cultural Event. Celebrating the 62nd year of Puerto Rican culture and contribution to the fabric of this city and our country, the event was televised nationally for millions of viewers. It’s also a chance for people to come up from the island and unite with friends and family and march or dance in one of the largest parades of the year. Before the mounted police signaled the start of the parade, a traditional dance was performed by the stage and reviewing stand on 68th St. to usher in good luck and positive results.

Spiritual Guidance Tarot Spread

SpookyMrsGreen's avatarSpookyMrsGreen

I have not worked with my Tarot cards for a long time, over six months, so today I decided to share a Tarot reading that I did for general interest. I used my Druid Craft tarot deck, and I had no specific questions, requests or intentions for the reading. What came out reflected largely on my husband, who recently took voluntary redundancy and is at a crossroads in his life both professionally and personally. It reminded me that I need to support my husband during his difficult time, and perhaps I have not been as sympathetic as I might have been recently. For me personally, there are no major stresses or worries. I know that our family is secure and that we will work through this life event. My husband has anxiety and depression, so for him the way forward is not always so clear and positive. Here is…

Pearl’s Sacred Space

Pearl thumbnailHi, Pearl here! And so is summer, it seems, with people and noise everywhere.

Call me a grouch, but it’s not my favourite season. My ears are super-sensitive and certain sounds drive me crazy, like the excited shrieks of kids on holiday and the thud of footballs being kicked around the beach. However, there’s one place the tourists (or grockles, as we call them) haven’t discovered yet, and that’s our local bluebell wood.

Sacred space

It doesn’t matter what’s going on elsewhere – bank holiday crowds, Scout jamborees or high winds in the treetops – this place is always peaceful. You can almost touch the stillness, and the only sound is the rich, echoing music of a blackbird. Annabelle says it’s like being in church, only better, and I think I know what she means – it’s a magical place where the presence of nature spirits is strong. As soon as you enter…

The Dos And Donts of Interacting with a Blind or Visually Impaired Person

K Morris Poet's avatarK Morris - Poet

People come to my blog either because they like my poetry, or due to a post on a subject of interest to them catching their attention. Most of those clicking on this site are unaware of the fact that I am registered blind (unless they click on my “About page and see a photograph of me with my guide dog, Trigger, or they come across one of the few posts in which I talk about my visual impairment).

Not being aware of my blindness means that my readers interact with me as they would with anyone else (which is, of course as it should be for I am not defined by my visual impairment). However, when I meet people in the real (off-line world) I do come across individuals who are unsure how to interact with a visually impaired person, indeed some people are downright embarrassed.

A few days back…

Creep – 30 Days 30 Songs

Sarah's avatarArt Expedition

Day 12 of my new blog challenge –

Share Your Music! 30 Days 30 Songs!

If you’d like to join me, you can do this on any day you want, or also every day.

A pingback to my posts would be lovely, so that I can keep track of your favorite songs as well.

I think it’s getting clearer by the day during this challenge, that I’m a huge fan of British Bands, and Radiohead is one hell of an English rock band!

This song, their debut single actually, became a worldwide hit, and no wonder really because who doesn’t feel sometimes that they don’t belong here – wherever “here” happens to be.
