Rain has set in for the day, with lightening strikes and hail forecast.

I’m hoping all the new buds and plants survive, including the feijoas (Acca sellowiana). In all the years we’ve had feijoa trees, this is the first time I’ve seen significant flowering.

I’ve been having some good luck recently with reading and rereading classics I thought school had killed for me. It’s definitely a streak I hope continues but my friend and I were talking about the not a chance never again books which is just like what it sounds because sometimes once is enough.

     A tradition that began 100 years ago in NYC was celebrated in a grand style that only New Yorkers can do. America honored its veterans in all the Armed Forces with marching bands from all parts of the country , floats with our beloved vets, and lots of fanfare. Before the parade started, there was a ceremony at Madison Square Park where a stage was set up for honored guests and speakers to proclaim the importance of the sacrifice these men and women  made to protect our nation. For the first time ever, a sitting US President attended the event. President Trump spoke to the vets about their courage and how we should all help our vets. Our final day in Sicily began slowly with a leisurely breakfast on our shady balcony. As our British Airways return flight to London wasn’t due to depart until 20.30 we had arranged a late check out, enabling us to have access to our apartment until late afternoon.

The majestic Palermo Cathedral

We started the day with a stroll along to the cathedral and admired its beautiful facade for one last time. Taking a walk around the side of the majestic church there was even more intricate stonework for us enjoy. Our route took us to the Capo district which is home to another of Palermo’s large outdoor markets. The Capo market was similar in size to the Ballero market located near to our apartment, stretching out from the square along neighbouring roads.
