Today I’m going to give you a few tips to keep that from happening. You can thank me when it’s your turn to host the holiday meal. Number one: Truss loosely, or not at all. The secret is to allow heat to get to all sides of the legs. Cooking the turkey until the legs are done may result in overcooking the breast meat. Number two: Don’t overcook. Pie crust on a cookie sheet covered in apples with cinnamon and sugar. Top that off with a brown sugar, butter and oats crumb topping. Baked then drizzled with caramel syrup for a delicious fall dessert.

Ingredients

Spray a cookie sheet with cooking oil.

Lay the two pieces of dough onto the pan and

pinch the seam together and any holes. Fold

the edges up creating a raised crust edge. Add

the apple pieces evenly on top of the dough.

In a medium bowl add the

sugar, flour and cinnamon.

Whisk together to combine.

Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the apples.

In a medium bowl add the

topping ingredients.

Mix with your fingers until all of the

butter is mixed into the dry ingredients.

Sprinkle the mixture evenly

over the apples.

Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for

35 – 40 minutes or until the crust is brown

Last month, I was fortunate enough to head out to California twice in rather rapid succession. The first trip, I landed in lovely Santa Rosa and headed up the coast to Mendocino for the 35th anniversary of Winesong, a charity event that this year raised $800K for the Mendocino Coast Healthcare Foundation.

Before getting there, I spent a couple of days in Sonoma County visiting some friends.

One of those friends runs the newly opened Flowers tasting room. While I will be writing more about that soon, Flowers should be on the short list of places to visit around Healdsburg.

Is you have never been up to Mendocino, it certainly warrants a trip as the county’s coastline is stunning.

There were several events over the course of the weekend for Winesong, but the highlight is certainly the Walk-Around Tasting and Charity Auction held at the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens.
