‘Is this a dream or reality?’ I am sure some of you, if not all, may have asked themselves the same question in an intricate day-dreaming state of mind.

I am standing right now beside these tall ancient buildings, asking myself the same question. The buildings are dark brown with just the right amount of golden shade that adds to their glory. Its not easy to look towards the top  without straining you neck, but it is worth it. Doing that makes you feel small, almost too tiny to meet eyes with your own conscience.

I am confused. I can’t decide whether to reflect myself in the magic of these buildings that are connected to each other but feel so apart, that they seem lonely. Or to look at people, walking hand in hand, in pairs and in groups, with smiles on their faces talking…

Stop and Smell the Bindweed

mothertherealist's avatarI Didn't Want to Be a Mother

One of the most prevalent and annoying weeds we have in our yard is Field Bindweed. Growing up, we called it Morning Glory. The flowers of Morning Glory and Bindweed have close coloring and shape, but that is where the similarities end.

Because Bindweed is a terrible plant.

bindweed-4328620_1920

As the (actual) name suggests, it’s an insidious weed that ties itself up other plants. Flowers or fruits or vines you may want to grow become choked and twisted in the stuff. We had a raspberry patch at our last house that Bindweed loved, since the raspberry bushes had convenient thorns the weed could climb up.

After extricating the little monster from around and around the stalk, there’s still the matter of the root. Bindweed’s origin lays far underground, and cannot simply be pulled out. “It is a vining perennial plant that sends roots to 30 feet deep and spreads from…

Invasion

Luckily I was there in the middle of the city at the precise moment when a portal from another dimension opened up. Out came these tall creatures with tentacles and rubbery skin. They looked at me with eyes that were coldly arrogant and inhuman. As I was a sorceress I used what powers I had to push them back through the portal and then closed it shut. The entire city celebrated the victory, but our revelry only lasted for one day.

The next day more portals began opening up everywhere and these alien creatures marched out in overwhelming numbers.

Bake in a preheated oven for about 25 minutes

or until the thickest part of each chicken breast

is 165 degrees. This is very important as chicken

has different thicknesses. I took the small pieces

out 10 minutes before the thick pieces, otherwise they

would have been over cooked and dry. Check the

temperature of each piece frequently and remove

each piece when 165 degrees then keep warm

until they are all cooked properly.

Parked in the Dark

Sam Allen Creative Coach's avatarPeacock Poetry

After much resistance to the infernal temperatures of late, I finally resigned myself to my lot and took up residence in the cellar! Although a touch on the dark side, the coolness was much appreciated as was spending most of the day with my two plates of meat (feet in Cockney rhyme slang) in a bowl of cold water. Have always been a touch on the quirky side and enjoyed penning this lighthearted dirty whilst growing accustomed to my new place of residence!

The Cellar Dweller

The cellar dweller knew her lot

There was but one solution

To hide out when the days were hot

Such was the heat a nuisance

Upon beanbag she read and sagged

With feet in cool tap water

Although the days could somewhat drag

‘Twas better than sun slaughter

Besides sometimes we need I find

Excuses to do nothing

And heatwaves of the vicious kind
