Ghost of the Gaelic Moon | Review

Melissa Rose Rogers's avatarMelissa Rose Rogers, Author

What comes to mind when you think of Ireland? Maybe it’s the Blarney Stone or leprechauns. Maybe it’s St. Patrick or druids.

After reading Ghost of the Gaelic Moon, I think this book will come to mind for me. This was a lighthearted paranormal romp through Dublin and beyond. Ireland is on my travel bucket list, so maybe one day I can experience this magic myself.

Here is my (hopefully) spoiler free review covering the characters, setting, and emotional payoff.

Roast Leg of Lamb

Jana's avatarJana Cooks

A couple of weeks ago I noticed a big hunk of meat sitting in my freezer — and no, it wasn’t Vincent 😉 It was a sultry leg of lamb just waiting for me to take it out on the town.

So yesterday afternoon it was decided that the time had come to make a belly-warming good ol’ roast leg of lamb and veggies for dinner.

Who’s hungry? Vincent, myself and our housemate, Roan. This meal serves 3 people.

Ingredients

Note: leg of lamb not pictured here as it was thawing outside in the sun at this point.

  • 2 kg leg of lamb
  • 700 g baby potatoes
  • 2 brown onions, quartered
  • 60 ml canola & olive oil blend
  • 1 handful course salt
  • 2 tsp ground pepper
  • 2 cups red wine
  • 2 tbsp thyme
  • Woolworths butternut, spinach & red onion bake
  • 2 cloves garlic, quartered
  • 1 bouquet de garni

Iced Peach Spritzers

Gail's avatarsnapshotsincursive

What’s Cooking in Gail’s Kitchen? Start Smart: Iced Peach Spritzers! Ripe peaches are succulent and running-down-your-chin juicy. When you have an abundance of them, think peach cocktails. By adding a sparkling mixer, such as seltzer water or Prosecco, you’ll feel as though every meal is as special as dining out. The blend of flavors and textures is far from ho-hum. Both versions are suitable for mixed company. Go completely non-alcoholic or throw together a grown-up concoction made with a nice white wine and garnished with a sprig of fresh mint.

ICED PEACH SPRITZERS

Ingredients:

4 ripe peaches, peeled, pitted, and sliced into 8 wedges each

1/4 cup sugar

1 bottle white wine, chilled

12 ounces seltzer water

Instructions:

Layer peach wedges on a baking sheet. Sprinkle with sugar. Cover with plastic wrap and freeze overnight. To serve, place 3-4 frozen peach wedges into a stemmed glass. Add 3 ounces of

The Sky-Pirates of Durn – The Story So Far

As My Life In Darkness is ending with the next episode I thought I would resume The Sky-Pirates of Durn story line with the idea of bringing that story to a close before the end of the year. So far there’s been 18 parts of it and I think it will need around 8-9 more episodes.

So if you’re struggling to remember what’s going on in it or you are new to the story here’s a helpful synopsis:

The Sky-Pirates of Durn – The Story So Far

Caelynn Liadon is sent from the Elvish kingdom of Larantel to SalanĂ©, the Imperial capital of the Empire of Tigreralat to be Larantel’s new ambassador. She was forced to go there to help restore the fortunes of her own house after her father got involved in a scandal at the royal court. When she turns up at the capital it turns out she’s

International Lesbian Day: Instagram Series, “Rebu”, Resignifies Lesbian Woman Issues

Pernambuco’s video artist Mayara Santana tells her experiences in the documentary designed for the IGTV format.

Gone are the days when calling a lesbian woman “dyke” was a curse. After years of prejudice and aggression, they re-signified the term and now “romp” has become a cry for freedom. A compliment of the most valuable, which, by the way, says a lot about pride. A lesbian woman carries machismo and homophobia in the same package (if she is black, she also has racism in the combo). And these are still obstacles that make it impossible to support some initiatives. As existence gains a new contour, it also innovates in the way it is counted.

Designer and video maker Mayara Santana, 27, found this gap. And from her personal experience, she made the “Rebu – Egolombra of an almost sorry shoe” web series, designed for the Instagram IGTV format. The documentary series comes from a specific place of speech:

Cowden Japanese Garden and Castle Campbell

Japanese Garden at Cowden

At the end of September, John had an unexpected day off work. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t great but we believed the forecast which said it would be better further east. It lied! We arrived at the Japanese Garden at Cowden in Clackmannanshire in pouring rain so, as it was around midday, we decided to have lunch first in the hope that the weather would clear. The small cafĂ© is housed in a temporary Portakabin, but once inside you wouldn’t know because it is well maintained and attractive – better still, the food is good and the staff are friendly.

Cowden is somewhere I’ve wanted to visit for a while. Created in 1908 by intrepid traveller Ella Christie (1861-1949), with the help of Taki Handa originally from the Royal School of Garden Design at Nagoya, it fell into disrepair in later years and was badly vandalised in
