Slow Your Intentions to Go Faster – Daily Quote

Change is difficult. We find the latest technology, the newest app to simplify our lives, or an improved device to increase our productivity. We run faster, and faster trying to keep pace with the bleeding edge. We grasp at soft data, opinions, and conjecture. It is simpler to accept marketing claims and easy answers. Decisions made by the seat of our pants may have long-term consequences. Supposed perfect solutions encourage us to ignore facts. Comfortable beliefs are easier to trust than complex concepts or challenging situations, and the results can be disastrous.

As counterintuitive as it sounds, there are benefits to slowing down. It allows us to check data, verify statistics, assess our needs, and determine if we are moving in the right direction. When we allow ourselves space to entertain new ideas and envision improvements, we construct a vision of our future. Some of the best stories, great insights, and breakthroughs come…

#Dresdenphiles Rejoice! Only 6 More Weeks until #PeaceTalks !

Marcia Meara's avatarThe Write Stuff

Woohooo … another week closer to Peace Talks, and another chance to chat about Harry Dresden and his very interesting friends and enemies. Today, whaddya say we talk about my favorite female character of the series:

 SGT. KARRIN MURPHY!

All good Dresdenphiles know that Harry has been attracted to a few women here and there in his life. He’s not a kid, after all, and he can admire a nice-looking female with the best of them. But his real choices throughout the series have been pretty limited, and only one of them has ever made sense to me, even though Harry seldom admits being attracted to her.  Sgt. Karrin Murphy is in charge of of Chicago’s Special Investigations department, and Murph, as Harry calls her, is my topic of the day.

Sgt. Karrin Murphy (alias Murph)

Personally, I’ve always been on Team Murphy, hoping these two will finally admit…

Escaping Man’s Insanity in Nature’s Sunday Morning – Daily Quote

Ugly events happen in dark hours. Horrifying images assault my senses and threaten to overwhelm my mind. Disgust churns in my stomach, and I feel the blackness consuming me. Hope flees, depression rises, and I fear the future of humankind. Sleep is a hard-won escape.

Contrast rises with the sun, revealing a magical quality to early Sunday mornings. Bright red cardinals compete for fat sunflower seeds. Red-winged blackbirds, chickadees, goldfinches, and a downy woodpecker flit between the feeder and the evergreens. Squirrels chase each other through the yard, oblivious to the hawk floating in lazy circles in the crystal blue sky. It may not be Walden, but it is my slice of nature carved from a suburban landscape.

A gentle mist rises in the chill air as the sun promises hope. A deep breath, a hot cup of coffee, and a soft breeze eases worry and clears the mind…

The Changing Seasons, May 2020

I’ve taken fewer photos this month than in any other since my days of film-camera ownership.

Basically, I haven’t been out all that much, and there are only so many photos I can take of the few remaining flowers in my garden.

Covid 19 restrictions have largely been removed in New Zealand and we are being bombarded with media messages to travel; see the country, spend whatever income we’re still earning on hotel nights and boutique pinot noir; go bungy-jumping, horse-trekking, white water rafting — whatever’s on offer in a country that has steadily replaced productive industries with tourism. Now the overseas visitors are absent, we’re practically being told that it’s our patriotic duty to replace their greenbacks, sterling and yuan with our own dollars.

Not only that, if we don’t do it NOW — the visitors will soon come…

Cosmic Spring breaks…!!!
The Festival is here…!!!
++++++++++++++++++++

The Outpouring of the Holy Spirit…!!!

“… All those who are fully conscious of their life in Creation, who have learnt to understand it and its manifestations will know how to celebrate this Festival.

Their devout attitude at the right moment will make it possible that, in return for thus opening themselves, the Living Blessing will find its way down to earth and will pour into thirsty souls as it did long ago into the disciples…”

“… It will bring peace and joy to those who do not fail, to those who will live and not be lost for all eternity.”

Abdruschin.

The Small Dog’s moral judgement…

Sue Vincent's avatarSue Vincent's Daily Echo

My two-legs came home soggy though it’s pretty hot outside.

She must have gotten really wet or else she would have dried.

I asked her what had happened to land her in such a state…

“A fish!” she said… I wondered just what she’d had on her plate!

*

“The sturgeon!” she informed me, and I thought she’d lost the plot.

I felt the laughter rising but I thought I’d better not…

Because I know the sturgeon and the plate where he’d belong

Would have to be a BIG one and at least a metre long!

*

But would she really eat him? After all, he is a friend…

I’d hate to see our friendship come to such a sticky end!

“Oh, don’t be daft, my girlie, he just got me with his tail…

And I’m as wet as if someone had drenched me with a pail!”

*
