Beware the sleeping Dragon
Can
you see
him there his
Head finely carved.
Eyes fixed in a stare.
Don’t walk upon his back
Be respectful and have care
For millennia he’s slept there
Resting, gathering strength he awaits
Merlin’s call to help save us from our fate.
We
Do not
See him there
We choose not too
Dragons are not real
Ever denying truth
We do not believe enough
Yet the Dragon believes in us.
Storing his strength to be ready
For the call he will rise when all else falls.

Joshua Tree National Park
Joshua Tree National Park is located 140 miles east of Los Angeles, encompassing 792,510 acres of the Mojave and Colorado deserts. This fragile and unique ecosystem is dominated by Joshua trees that are actually species of Yucca (Y. brevifolia in the west and Y. schidigera in the east). Slow-growing at only one inch per year, they can reach 40 feet tall and live up to 500 years. The one pictured above could very old indeed!
Home to a wide range of plants, animals and unusual rock formations, it offers camping and miles of trails. Being a desert, one must bring ample water and wear protection from the sun. The range between night and day temperatures can go from below freezing to over 100F. To live here, plants and animals must be very hardy!
I was fascinated by the geology and learned that the piles of granite boulders were formed when…

Review: Embers of War (Embers of War #1) by Gareth L. Powell
“Sometimes the needs of the mission outweigh the requirements of the rulebook,”
★★★★★
I have received this book for free from Titan Books in exchange of an honest review.
I already had this book on my TBR for a while before Titan Books emailed me about book two in this series. It really deems like the Bookish Divines listed to me when I said I wanted to read more Science Fiction books. And what Sci-fi fan can resist a cover like this?! Anyway, requesting this book (and book two for that matter) was a really good call as I absolutely loved it. I read both within the same week. Absolutely amazing.
When reading this book, Powell’s writing style made it really clear he is someone that is comfortable writing science fiction. The way he describes space travel, the makings of AI or general futuristic stuff makes it feel almost normal.

Southern Sea Lions~

Check out los lobos del mar playing in Peru!

This group was photographed in Los Islas Palominos off the coast of Lima.

They were quite curious about their unusual human visitors,

and kept popping up to get a better view!

This bull was hanging out near La Serena Chile.

Southern bulls are more massive and furry than their northern counterparts,

and they seem more threatening too!

These happy guys were playing around Islas Balestras near Pisco Peru.

I am only intermittently near functioning wifi so please excuse my absence, and cheers to you from Los Lobos del Mar~

70’s era drugs, sex and rock & roll by the author of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo… yeah, this was a a little high on my most anticipated reads list this year. Even the subject matter appeals to me so it hurts to admit…
It fell a little flat.
